A Trust is a legal instrument which enables a person or entity to control money and property for the benefit of a third person (the beneficiary). The Trustee holds a fiduciary responsibility to manage things properly.
Some people want to avoid probate, and will have a trust designed to do just that. A Trust can help avoid probate because your property is technically owned by the Trust, therefore the probate courts don’t have anything to administer. The Trustee distributes your assets pursuant to your instructions. The only limits to a trust are one’s imagination. A Trust can be used to accomplish many different purposes.
